Why every tracker asks for your RCON password

BattleMetrics, RustTools and the rest connect into your server over RCON, so you give them the one password that can wipe your map. That is how they see real names. Without it they see what any browser sees: a player list Rust deliberately fills with made-up names.

Cattlemetrics goes the other way. A plugin on your server sends its roster, events and chat out over HTTPS with a token that can only send. No inbound port, no password, nothing to leak. Revoke the token and it is inert.

How it works

Sign in with Steam, open your server’s page, click Claim this server.
Download Cattlemetrics.cs — your token is already in it — and drop it in oxide/plugins or carbon/plugins. It loads by itself.
The first batch from your server’s own address verifies the claim. That’s it.

Oxide/uMod and Carbon. Around 300 lines, readable, no dependencies — read it before you install it. Sends a heartbeat every 30 s plus events as they happen; a few kilobytes a minute.

What it will never do

Run a command on your server. Kick, ban, or change anything. Accept a connection. See your RCON password. Keep working after you revoke it.

Sell anything on your behalf. VIP stays yours, priced by you, granted by you; the perk is information and alerts — the same bucket as queue skip and Discord roles under Facepunch’s monetisation rules.

Widgets

Once the claim is live, your claim page hands you copy-ready embed code — HTML, Markdown and BBCode — for a badge that shows your population, wipe age and the verified mark, on your own website, forum signature or Discord. The same numbers come as public JSON for your own site or bot.
